Leinroth, Fitzpatrick ripped records on the board

Darien divers Alex Leinroth and Elizabeth Fitzpatrick each broke longtime Fairfield County records off the board this summer.

The Fairfield County Swim League held its Diving Championship meets over three days  earlier this summer.

Shorehaven Country Club hosted the 14 and 17-and-under age groups in Norwalk at the end of July. And the 12-and-under age group met at Patterson Club in Fairfield in early Aug., as did 10U group event  held at the New Canaan Field Club.

What came out of this locally, is that three county records were broken with a field that featured 190 divers from 31 teams.

Leinroth soared through the 17U one meter record held by Darien’s Katherine Mattison of since 1998.

Fitzpatrick, who had a mishap during her warm-up that resulted in a sprained hand, broke a 15 year record in the 10U one meter competition, a record set in 1992 also
held by Katherine Mattison of Middlesex.

Sean Burston broke his own record, set last year, in Boys 10U one meter.

Leading the way was Newfield Swim Club as their divers placed first in the overall competition with a total of 266 points, followed by the New Canaan Field Club (215 points) and Long Ridge (184 points).

On the first day of competition at Shorehaven, Leinroth of Innis Arden Club took first on both one meter and three meter in the 17U events.

The Blue Wave sophomore standout, and Class M champ is also ranked nationally in platform diving.

Darien High teammate Meg Collins of Middlesex took second on three meter and Carolyn DiMarco of Shore and Country placed second on one meter.

Brad Schott and Wave standout Phillip Morehouse, both of Stamford Yacht Club, took first and second respectively on both the one and three meter in the boys 17U
event.

Tyler Pramer of Shorehaven took third in both one and three meter.

In the 14U girls events, Kara Capossela of Roxbury and Katie Warburg of Shore and Country split the glory.

Capossela took first on one meter and second on three meter, and Warburg took second on one meter and first on three meter.

Tory Benson of Newfield placed third on both one and three meter.

Timmy Murphy of Middlesex Club took first place in the boys 14U one meter, with Danny Schott of Stamford Yacht Club taking first on three meter.

Schott took second on one meter with Patrick Newton of Country Club of Darien placing third on one meter.

Isaac Sterman of Newfield took second on three meter with Murphy taking third on three meter.

On the second day of competition at Patterson Club in Fairfield, Arianna Ross of New Canaan Field took first with Shannon McDonagh of Shorehaven in second place in the 12U one meter event. Third place went to Lauren Cunningham of Long Ridge.

Fitzpatrick placed first in 12 and under three meter with Arianna Ross and Shannon McDonagh second and third respectively.

Darien’s Jake Bowtell of Roton Point took first in the boys 12U one meter event with Sam Sterman and Matt Evans, both of Newfield, in second and third respectively.

Sean Burston of Long Ridge took first in the Boys 12U three meter competition. Bowtell was second and Steven Kreuch of Tokeneke Club third.

On the last day of competition, Fitzpatrick took first in the girls 10U one meter competition. Meghan Griffin of Roxbury and Rachel Burston of Long Ridge took second and third respectively.

Burston of Long Ridge took first in the boys 10U one meter event, with Bobby Ross of New Canaan Field Club second and Andrew Bologna of Burning Tree Club third.
