Darien had its ninth win of the season, with just two matches to go before FCIACs, against St. Joseph 5-2 at home on Thursday.

The wins came primarily from the doubles duos of seniors Barry Edgar and captain Kim Russell (6-0, 6-1), Amanda Brodsky-Lisa Giannandrea (6-4, 6-4) and Catherine Stineman-Kyle McCoy (6-1, 6-0).

“Barry and Kim played a strong aggressive match dominating play at the net,” Darien coach Kit Reilly said. “Lisa and Amanda pulled out a close one focusing hard and keeping up with consistent ground stroke winners.”

At singles Alex Budd (7-6, 7-5) and Lonneke Eenkema van Dijk (6-3, 6-1) prevailed.

“Alex hung in for her close match sneaking out another winner,” Reilly said. “And Lonneke dominated her singles play 6-3, 6-1.”

The Wave climbs to 9-4 with regular season matches remaining against Trinity at home on Monday, and at Wilton on Tuesday, with the league championship tournament beginning on May 15.

Her name, Lonneke Eenkema van Dijk is a mouthful, but the sharp Blue Wave freshman singles player has proven a handful too for opponents in her rookie year. (Darien Times/Steven Buono photo)
