Darienite conducts Park Street Singer’s show

The Park Street Singers will perform their new spring show at Atria Darien on Wednesday, May 14. Long-time Darien resident Alice Schweitzer will conduct.

Darien-based singers with the group are Kathleen Bernadette, Ginny Miller, Cookie Martini, Martha Van Nierop, Jean Venezio and Helen Geogerian.

Schweitzer writes special arrangements for the singers and instrumentalists. Her career includes singing with big bands, performing as the lead singer with the vocal quartet, “Swing Fever,” and directing the Darien-based Connecticut Choraliers.

The show will include a performance of “Sing, Sing, Sing” with Tony LaVorgna on clarinet and Ellen Doukoullos on piano. Peggi de la Cruz will sing “Deep Purple.” Kathleen Bernadette will give the solo during “A Tisket, A Tasket.”

The Park Street Singers have given more than 1,000 performances in the county since 1973.  The chorus performs show tunes, popular oldies, traditional folk songs, swing and blues.

Women interested in singing with the three-part group are invited to contact Schweitzer at 655-7275.
