Barbara Bowman
Barbara Bowman of Greenwich died Sunday, April 27, following a heart attack. She was 74.

The daughter of Lee and Evelyn Rowland, formerly of Larchmont, N.Y., Ms. Bowman grew up in Larchmont.

She moved to Rye, N.Y., when she married Russell Bowman in 1957. In 1963, she and her family moved to Greenwich, living briefly in Glenville, for 30 years in Riverside and finally moving to Byram in 1996.

Ms. Bowman was an accomplished artist whose work was displayed and awarded at the Greenwich and Old Greenwich art shows. Her talents included paintings, clay, handmade baskets and specialty work like fireboards, which were featured in Country Living magazine.

Ms. Bowman co-owned Panache, an arts and crafts store in Greenwich. Last year, her work filled the main hallway at Greenwich Woods, where had lived for the past three years.

She also worked for a time at Macmillans in Greenwich, making flower arrangements, and served on the Altar Guild at St. Paul’s Church in Riverside. Loving art as she did, family members said, Ms. Bowman taught herself to paint with her left hand even after the effects of a stroke took away the use of her right hand. She completed several canvases the day before she died.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years; her daughter Sally of Byram, and her sons, John and his wife Nicole of Byram, Russell Jr. and his two children, RJ and Claudia, of Pheonixville, Pa., and Jeff and his fiancée Julie of Ardmore, Pa.

Calling hours are from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at Castiglione’s Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Ave. A private burial will follow the next day.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at St. Paul’s on Riverside Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Greenwich Woods Employee Sunshine Fund, 1165 King St., Greenwich, CT 06831.
