Jayne S. Underwood, a former Greenwich Realtor, died at her home on Monday, May 5, under hospice care. The cause of her death was acute leukemia with complications.
Born in Benson, Vt., on Nov. 23, 1927, she was the daughter of Sherman L. and Lou Moore Stahl, and grew up in Chatham, N.Y. After graduating from Chatham High School, she became secretary to the manager of Travelers Insurance Co. in Albany, N.Y.
Ms. Underwood had a long and successful career as a Realtor in Greenwich, having joined the Greenwich Real Estate Board in 1967. She became a Realtor Associate with the firm of Thomas M. Cooke Inc., and later, upon the merger of the two agencies, with William Raveis Real Estate, where she had membership in the Raveis Advisory Council. She held GRI and CRS credentials, and also held credentials as a Certified Residential Appraiser.
A resident of Greenwich since 1960, Ms. Underwood was a member of the Second Congregational Church, serving as a Stephens minister, was a longtime member of the Woman’s Club of Greenwich, active on the board as publicity director, and was a part-time driver for Meals on Wheels.
She was a longtime member of the Moorings Club in Vero Beach, Fla., and enjoyed the Adirondacks, bridge, golf, travel, and the New York Yankees. Her greatest interest was Tod’s Point and she had a quiet love of Greenwich.
Ms. Underwood is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert J. Underwood of Greenwich, a daughter Nancy J. Underwood of Greenwich, a son, Robert J. Underwood Jr. of Williamsburg, Va., his wife, Pamela M. Underwood, and their two children, Joseph M. and Victoria L.
A memorial service will be held at the Second Congregational Church in Greenwich, Friday, May 9, at 3. Burial will be private.
