Greenwich surgeon to discuss chronic knee pain, prevention
Mar 31, 2008
Ah, the aching joint. Those who have trouble with their knees know problems worsen with age.
That's why orthopaedic surgeon Dr. James Cunningham of Orthopaedic and
Neurosurgery Specialists and Greenwich Hospital will present, "The Aging Knee: Treatment and Prevention of
Conditions of the Knee," for the Greenwich Hospital Chronic Pain
Management Forum on Tuesday, April 1, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Admission is free of charge and open to those who deal with chronic pain. The talk will take place in the Noble Conference Center at Greenwich Hospital. Registration is required. Call 863-4277 or 888-305-9253, or register online at Greenhosp.org.
Dr. Cunningham will discuss the most common knee conditions in patients 50 years old or older. In particular, he will explain how knee cartilage, the firm rubbery protein material that covers the ends of bones and acts as a shock absorber between bones, can be damaged by wear and tear. As people age, the articular cartilage breaks down causing pain, swelling and decreased mobility. The talk will include information on ways to help prevent and treat this condition.
Dr. James Cunningham is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is fellowship trained in sports medicine and has served as team physician to Greenwich High School for 17 years. Dr. Cunningham is included in the 11th edition, 2008 Castle Connolly guide to New York metro area top doctors.
