What is the growing season around here?

Lewisboro is in Zone 5. The growing season starts in April for cool-weather crops. A good time to plant tender vegetables and flowers is after Mother’s Day in May, presumably following the last frost.

Some of the most popular flowers are impatiens and geraniums. People prefer to grow what the deer don’t eat, however, and it is getting harder to find plants they dislike. Vegetable growers have success with tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, pumpkins, and corn. Herb gardens do well here and are becoming more popular.

First frost can be expected after mid-September.
