Lewisboro is important
to drug council's success

Patricia Murphy Warble, executive director of the Bedford/Lewisboro/Pound Ridge Drug Abuse Prevention Council, appeared at Tuesday night’s Town Board meeting to present an overview of program activities and to thank Lewisboro for its interest and ongoing financial support.

“We started out as a ‘hotline’ and have now been around for 25 years,” she said. “We focus on three main areas: programming, including our annual Family University, our ‘Of Substance’ newsletter, and systematic training for effective parenting across all age groups.”

Ms. Warble said Family University, held annually on the John Jay campus, has been tremendously successful over the years.

“It is really our flagship event and a model that has now been adopted throughout Westchester,” she said.

The council’s Of Substance newsletter addresses education and prevention issues and is mailed to the Lewisboro community.

“We think it is very effective and draws upon the input we receive through close relationships with our area police, businesses and schools,” she said.

Ms. Warble said the council also has a close relationship with Westchester County.

“They help to bring together all of the different coalitions,” she said. “We network, and participants look to us for programming ideas. For example, we are now distributing a reprinted brochure on underage drinking laws and their implications for children and parents.”

Ms. Warble added she is now working on preparing a Web site for the council.
“I hope to have it completed soon and will let you know when it is ready to access,” she said.
