Indians beat Harrison twice in Florida

Through seven games, the John Jay baseball team showed its offensive power as the Indians averaged 13 runs per game and batted .405 as team in opening the season at 6-1.
But when the Indians could muster only four hits and two runs on Monday against Harrison, they showed they can beat teams with their pitching, too.
With Chris Eidam, the team’s number-three starter, hurling a two-hitter, John Jay managed to up its record to 7-1 with a 2-1 victory.
The game was played at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla., as part of the team’s vacation-week trip. The Indians had defeated Harrison there on Sunday night, too, by a score of 11-4.
Eidam, making his first start of the season, went the distance, allowing only two hits and six walks over seven innings, while striking out 10. The junior leftie escaped three jams where the Huskies had a runner on third with no outs.
Harrison’s only run was unearned and came in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 1-1.
The Indians had just taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth on Anthony Iacomini’s RBI single to drive in Stephen Green, who had doubled. Harrison’s Tim Mustacato (10 strikeouts) had limited the Indians to one hit up to that point.
The scored remained 1-1 into the bottom of the seventh, when Green walked, was moved to second by Ray Maggi, and scored the game-winning run on J.K. Filauro’s RBI double.
Filauro led John Jay at the plate as he reached base three times, going 2-for-3 with a double and RBI, and was also hit by a pitch. Green was 1-for-2 with a double and walk, and scored both John Jay runs. Iacomini was 1-for-3 with a walk and RBI.
Reaching base two times were Ryan Mitchell (two walks) and John Swertfager (walk, hit by pitch), while Jared Hirschberg walked. Iacomini, Mike Filice and Eric Rhodes each had a stolen base.
On Sunday night, the Indians broke a scoreless game with four runs in the second, and poured on three more in the third, one in the fourth and three in the fifth to build an 11-1 lead, en route to an 11-4 win over Harrison.
Green got the win, improving his record to 4-0, as he allowing three hits, one run and two walks over five innings, striking out 10. Greg Gardiner threw a scoreless sixth (no hits, one walk) and Sean Lowe closed things out in the seventh.
Kyle Clemmenson continued his hot start by going 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored, while Iacomini did the same by going 2-for-4 with a home run and triple, 2 RBI and two runs scored.
After eight games, Clemmenson is leading the Indians in batting with a .556 average and 15 runs scored, while Iacomini is hitting .533 and is among the Section leaders in RBI (20) and slugging percentage (1.10).
J.K. Filauro again reached base three times as he went 2-for-4, with a double and run scored. He was also hit by a pitch and had two stolen bases.
Maggi slugged a triple and had 3 RBI and scored a run, while Alan Filauro was 1-for-3 with a triple, RBI, run scored and walk.
Green, Mitchell and Swertfager also scored runs, while Gardiner, Hirschberg and Rhodes each had a walk.
