MMRF race
The Tri-State Area Race for Research to benefit the Multiple Myeloma
Research Foundation will be held Sunday, June 8, at New Canaan High
School. The 5K walk/run begins at 9 a.m. Those who wish to register in
advance may visit mmrfrace.org/tri-state. The fee increases for those
who register at the event.
‘Art of the Northeast’
“Art of the Northeast” runs through June 6 at the Silvermine Guild Arts
Center Galleries. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday,

‘Spectrum’
“Spectrum,” the annual juried art exhibition sponsored by the New
Canaan Society for the Arts, runs through June 15 at the Carriage Barn
Arts Center in Waveny Park. Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday
through Friday, 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Additional information

The Exchange Club of New Canaan will host its seventh annual golf
tournament Thursday, June 12, at the Country Club of New Canaan.
Corporate sponsors (foursomes/twosomes), along with the opportunity to
be an advertising partner are available. Information is available from

“Garden Rhymes,” an exhibition by nature photographer Steve White, runs
through Monday, June 30 at the New Canaan Nature Center, 144 Oenoke

Art at Barbel
New Canaan artist Norman Jensen will have a solo show at Barbel
Jewelry, 143 Elm Street, through June 30. An opening reception for the
artist will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 6. Store hours are 10
a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Bank show
The artwork of painter and exhibitor Deborah K. Flavin is on display at
The Bank of New Canaan’s Elm Street branch through the end of August.
Cinderella
New England Dance Theatre production of “Cinderella” at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, June 14, and 4 p.m. Sunday, June 15, at New Canaan High
School. Tickets are available by e-mail at neadtickets@yahoo.com or at
the door. Adult tickets are $20. Child/Student/Senior are $10 for
Saturday’s Act II and $15 for Sunday’s Act 1 and Act II.
Starting Summer Theatre
The Summer Theatre of New Canaan will hold the “Opening Gala Party” for
its 2008 season at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at Irwin Park. The evening
will feature a tropical cocktail reception, dining with an island
flavor catered by Rosie’s of New Canaan, and at 7:30 p.m. a performance
of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.” The party will be staged at the
Summer Theatre’s new open-air canopy tent. Dessert and champagne with
the cast will conclude the evening. Tickets can be obtained at

Madrigal reunion
From Friday, May 30 through Sunday, June 1, alumni of the NCHS Madrigal Ensemble will gather to honor Conductor Arthur Sjogren as he retires from 34 years of teaching at New Canaan High School. The culminating event for the weekend will be a concert for the community at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at the First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan, 178 Oenoke Ridge. Admission is free.
Red Cross gala
The annual Red Cross “Paint the Town Red” gala will be held at Woodway Country Club Saturday, May 31. Saxophonist James Clark will entertain during the cocktail reception and silent auction. Cloud 9 will keep things lively for dinner and dancing, and C. Hugh Hildesley of Sotheby’s is auctioneer for the evening. There will also be a special live appearance by Michael Longoria and Daniel Reichard, two of the original cast members of “Jersey Boys.” Tickets are available from Diane Castrovinci at 966-1663 or dcastrovinci@snet.net.

Clean Sweep
As part of an ongoing beautification effort downtown, the New
Canaan Village Association is sponsoring a town-wide “Clean Sweep” day

Downtown New Canaan is a virtual art gallery through May 24 as 41 artist members from the Carriage Barn Arts Center in Waveny Park display their work in the windows of 41 stores during the second annual “Art in the Windows” exhibition.
