Community Foundation names new board members

The New Canaan Community Foundation introduced new members of its Board of Directors at its 30th annual Meeting January 24 at Waveny House.
Community Foundation Board President Bill Walbert thanked Stuart Lovejoy, chairman of the Nominating Committee and his committee.
Mr. Walbert acknowledged retiring board member Ned Brooks for his service and generosity to the Foundation, presented four new members of the volunteer Board of Directors and introduced officers for 2008.
Longtime New Canaan residents Chip Perkins, John Rice, David Rucci and Lisa Wrenn were welcomed to the board.
“The Community Foundation is so fortunate to have these remarkable residents devote their time and talent to our unique organization, to help fulfill our mission of promoting community philanthropy and helping donors achieve their charitable goals,” Mr. Walbert said.
In addition to Mr. Walbert, the Community Foundation executive committee includes Julianne Grace, vice president of distributions; Elizabeth Ker, vice president of development; Jim Duffy, treasurer, and Brian Moran, secretary; as well as Bob Albus, Mr. Lovejoy and Tom Turrentine.
Returning board members are Dick Bond, Cindy Charas, Sara Daniel, Jane Gamber, Jean Grzelecki, Jim Malling, Jennifer Purdy and Tom Stadler.
New Board Members
Chip Perkins
Mr. Perkins grew up in New Canaan and has lived here with his wife, Debbie, since returning in 1996. They have two children, Sara, a sophomore at University of Richmond, and Charles, a senior at New Canaan High School.
His sister, Polly, and mother also live here.
Mr. Perkins was a member of the board of A Better Chance of New Canaan for six years, serving as president for four years.
Mr. Perkins is a principal of MKP Capital Management, a registered investment adviser specializing in fixed income alternative investment products. He is responsible for business operations including client service and marketing. Prior to founding MKP Capital Management, Mr. Perkins worked at Salomon Brothers Inc., serving as a managing director in the Fixed Income Securities Department, where he headed the central United States region of the Mortgage Sales Department.
Mr. Perkins received a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Denison University in 1980 and completed an internship at the London School of Economics.
John Rice
Mr. Rice and his wife, Pat, have been in New Canaan for 13 years, and now live here with the youngest of their four children.
Mr. Rice is a member of the Exchange Club of New Canaan and the Southern Connecticut Lacrosse Officials Association, and serves on the Board of Directors of Johnson Diversey Holdings and the National Park Foundation. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Wesleyan University in Middletown.
Mr. Rice is the retired president of Unilever of the Americas. He retired from the consumer products company in April, 2007, following a 26-year career. He was a member of Unilever’s Executive Committee and reported to the Group CEO. He was also president of the Unilever United States Charitable Foundation and served on the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of the Grocery Manufacturers of America.
David Rucci
Mr. Rucci grew up in New Canaan, and he and his wife, Barbara, now live here with their three children, Grace, Ava and Nate.
Mr. Rucci is a partner of the firm Rucci, Burnham, Carta, Carello & Reilly, and practices in the New Canaan office. His practice includes residential and commercial real estate, land use and zoning, business transactions and probate.
Mr. Rucci graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a bachelor of arts degree in history and philosophy in 1990. He received his Juris Doctor from Quinnipiac College School of Law in 1997.
Mr. Rucci is currently on the Board of the United Way of New Canaan, is a former secretary of the New Canaan Rotary Club and currently serves as co-chairman of its Allocations Committee. He is also a director of the New Canaan Cemetery Association, and served as a board member of the Getabout from 2002 to 2005.
Lisa Wrenn
Mrs. Wrenn and her husband, Chris, have lived in New Canaan for 14 years and have two children, ages 11 and 16, who attend New Canaan public schools.
She has played leadership roles in various community-based organizations, particularly development, having served on the Board of Newcomers for two years and assisted with the Holiday House tour. She also headed the auction committee for the New Canaan Library gala, and worked on Ways and Means for the Young Women’s League of New Canaan, spearheading the first Designer Showhouse in New Canaan. Mrs. Wrenn later served as the Young Women’s League President.
Mrs. Wrenn works with local nonprofits specializing in young people, including serving on the Board of Directors of The Outback Teen Center Board for four years. Currently she is vice president of philanthropy for the Service League of Boys, overseeing 25 liaisons with community organizations. She has also been a volunteer in the public elementary, middle, and high schools.
