Channel 79 seeks sophomore, junior interns

May 7, 2008

Channel 79 is accepting applications from current high school sophomores and juniors for the John Pollack TV Broadcasting Award for Channel 79 Internships.

Launched last fall, the internships offer opportunities for high school students to learn all aspects of broadcasting, working with Channel 79 professionals.

In addition to receiving a cash award, interns will be given a broad range of assignments with New Canaan’s public access television channel. These include identifying and evaluating community and high school events for Channel 79 coverage and learning the roles of director, producer, camera operator, lighting and sound technician and on-camera host.

Interns will also create promotional material for newspapers and on-air broadcasts and become involved in programming the Channel 79 Community Bulletin Board. Scheduling is flexible, usually two to three hours a week.

Tony Thompson, president of Channel 79, noted that a goal of this learning-on-the-job experience will be to develop skills that will enable the interns to mentor other students who may become future interns.

Applications are available in the offices of New Canaan High School, St. Luke’s School, The Outback Teen Center and the New Canaan Library.

All applications must be received by May 15. Questions may be addressed to NCTV79@gmail.com or Paul Sedlak at 966-8988.
