Marion Waterbury, retired teacher

Apr 5, 2008

Marion R. Waterbury of Woburn, Mass., previously of Redding, died Tuesday, March 19, 2008, at Heartstone Alzheimer Care following an illness of three years. Mrs. Waterbury, 87, was the wife of 43 years of the late Frederick S. Waterbury.

Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Marion Boyland Waterbury. She was brought up in Newtown and was educated at Danbury State Teachers College, now Western Connecticut State University. She began teaching primary education in the Weston school system, and later spent the balance of her career at the kindergarten level.

She met her future husband in Weston and the couple moved to Redding, where they raised their family, after which Mrs. Waterbury resumed her teaching career.
Mr. and Mrs. Waterbury loved to go camping, with their travel covering 48 states and Canada, the family said. Over the years, they established homes at Lake Candlewood and in Lakeland, Fla.

Mrs. Waterbury retired 21 years ago, and moved to Woburn, Mass., four and a half years ago to be closer to family members.

She is survived by three sons, Daniel Waterbury of Oceanside, Calif., the Rev. Dr. George “Skip” Waterbury and his wife Victoria of Winchester, N.Y., and David Waterbury, Esq. of Middle Village, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.

A celebration of Mrs. Waterbury’s life will be held at a memorial service on Saturday, April 5, at 1:30 in the First Church of Danbury.
