Annual Tractor Show & Pull
revs up today from 1 to 4
|
The Redding Historical Society is once again presenting its annual Antique Tractor Show and Pull this Saturday, June 30, from 10 to 4 at Lonetown Farm & Museum field.
The tractor pull competition is one of the Redding Historical Society’s premier fund-raising events, and the competition is the only one of its kind held in Fairfield County. Competitors from across Connecticut and upstate New York have made the annual pilgrimage to Redding to pit their “iron horses” against each other for ribbons and prestige.
This year’s show will also highlight a special exhibit of antique fire engines and apparatus from both the Redding and Bethel Volunteer Fire departments. The Bethel Fire Department will be exhibiting a rare 1840s horse-drawn water pump engine. Also on exhibit will be fully restored Mack fire engines from 1927 and 1937, along with engines from the 1950s and 1970s.
Pulling sleds of progressively greater concrete weights for tractors of both the full-sized types and the smaller garden variety will determine the winners according to their respective weight class. Fully restored antique tractors will also be on exhibit, along with working one-lung gas engines. The historic Lonetown Farmhouse will be open to the public for viewing, along with a sales booth where the society will be selling uniquely designed Redding T-shirts and ball caps along with historic maps, prints and books.
The Bethel Fire Department will be selling grilled foods and drink, and the Good Humor ice cream truck will be offering cool treats to all. The Redding Historical Society’s field is at Lonetown Farm & Museum, 43 Lonetown Road (Route 107). Admission is $8; children under 12 are free, as is the parking.
