In Redding
Park is closed for filming of Old Dogs

Putnam Memorial State Park is closed to the public through Friday, Aug. 17.

First Selectman Natalie Ketcham confirmed the park is being used as a set for the upcoming Disney movie Old Dogs, which stars Robin Williams and John Travolta. The Redding Community Center was recently used as a set as well.

In a release, the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) said the park closing is necessary to accommodate a variety of  “special uses” of the park. The DEP grants “special use” permits to numerous organizations to use state parks as a venue for events and activities, the release said.

The DEP said the “special use” activities will limit parking and create other impediments to public use of the park during the week.

A large, white catering tent has taken over the parking lot at the state park off Route 107, and cars are filling the surrounding parking lots.
