Secret is out about Frog Frolic’s silent auction

by Stephanie Oulton and Vanessa Bronder Alward

The annual Mark Twin Library’s Frog Frolic is not an unknown, but its silent auction is one of its best kept secrets.

The Mark Twain Library’s 13th annual Frog Frolic Fair is on Saturday, May 3, from 11 to 4 at the Redding Community Center, 37 Lonetown Road. In case of rain, the event will be moved indoors.

This year, participants could be bidding on silent auction items ranging from dinner at the River House Tavern in Westport to a classic rug from Kaoud Oriental Rugs or even original oil paintings. How about a VIP parking space for every Concert on the Green this summer?

To date, more than 40 donated items have made their way to the Frog Frolic auction. The list is vast and varied — a family membership to The Beardsley Zoo, a six-month family membership to the Wilton YMCA, or a three-month membership in the Wine Club from Redding Wine & Spirits.

Also, Swarvoski crystal jewelry, gift cards from Rings End Lumber and Hollandia Nursery, baskets of treats from Swirl or a week of Princess Camp from the Conservatory of Dance. All proceeds from the auction benefit the Mark Twain Library Association.

This year marks the Centennial for the library, so adding to the celebration will be the debut of the Centennial T-shirts and Centennial cupcakes for sale! The Frog Frolic has also expanded its entertainment schedule this year. The Redding Community Orchestra will return. A new act is Annie and Safari Bob of the Natural Wonder Band. The full schedule will be announced closer to the date.

As in previous years, there will be many kid-friendly games with prizes, various easy-to-create crafts, a food tent, cotton candy and much more. Returning popular inflatable attractions are the Giant Slide, the Obstacle Course and the Dragon’s Castle. Once more there will be an inflatable play area intended just for children 5 years old and under.

This event is an annual fund-raiser that is used to help meet the operating budget of the library.

Anyone wishing to contribute to this year’s Frog Frolic may call Mary Ellen Lake at 938-3806. Interested volunteers may call Angela Matsuoka at 938-4875.
