Americares/Homefront initiative
Church members help restore local home
|
On Saturday, more than 30 members of the First Church of Christ, Congregational gathered to restore a home on Mountain Road as part of the AmeriCares/Homefront initiative.
This is the first time over the past 10 years that church members have worked on a Redding home. Members have also worked on homes in New Milford, Danbury, Norwalk, Westport and Redding in partnership with AmeriCares/Homefront.
This organization has provided more than $3 million in service and goods to those who would otherwise not be able to afford to remain in their homes.
The First Church of Christ has been supportive in that effort to reach out to the larger community. Painting is often the primary focus. However, projects have included electrical repairs, kitchen and bath renovation, basement stair repair, window and door replacement, concrete exterior stair rebuilding, landscape work including drainage and water diversion, and some modest roofing.
These have all been part of an ongoing effort to make it possible for many who would not otherwise be able on their own to remain safe and warm in their homes.
Both high school youth and adults worked together over the course of the day — always Derby Day — to bring a home back to life.
Those who participated in Saturday’s endeavor were Betsy Alte, Charles Alte, Jeff Braun, Jeff Carusone, Alexandra Churchill, Stephanie Churcill, Karen Conroy, Bowie Dunacan, Richard Emerson and Susan Emerson.
Also, Terry Flagg, Nicholas Geti, Toby Hesketh-Tutton, Sophronia Kelly, Rick Kummer, Michael LeBlanc, Kenneth McAdam, Sondra McAdam, Christopher Nolan and Kim O’Rielly.
Additionally Mark Reinders, Sandy Rice, Erica Rigby, Michael Rigby, MaryLynn Santa, Tom Santa, Carolyn Stenerson, Justin Stenerson, Luann Stoner, Bill Urban, Brian Urban, Roger Van Ausdal, Alexander Wolochuk, and Lee Wolochuk.
