Music is highlight of Georgetown Day

Jun 2, 2008

Adam Lubarsky has once again scheduled a variety of music for the Annual Georgetown Day Street Festival, held this year on Sunday, June 8, from noon until 7.

There will be a Main Stage on the north end of Main Street and an acoustic stage on the south end. Music is scheduled from 12:30 to 6:45. A full schedule of the entertainment will be presented closer to the event.

The entire length of Main Street in Georgetown will be closed to cars on June 7 to create a pedestrian walkway and a venue for a variety of attractions for adults and children, including more than 60 craft booths, food vendors, a Lions Club beer tent, a dunk tank, and a chili cook-off coordinated by the Joel Barlow High School wrestling team. There will also be a screening of the recently produced movie “A Georgetown Story” at the nearby Georgetown Bible Church and live bands on stage at both ends of the street. There will be a Bounce House and other activities for children, as well as raffles. Local civic groups are participating in the event.

Major sponsors to date include Bruce Bennett Nissan, Ridgefield Bank, Caraluzzi’s, Performance Landscaping, Georgetown Jeep, and Events Party & Tent Rental. Craft and vendor booths are still available by contacting gvrbooth@optonline.net.

Before the start of the street festival, the Wilton Chamber of Commerce will sponsor The Georgetown Gallop 5K Road Race and Fun Run at 10:30 that morning. The course goes down and back along Old Mill Road, with check-in at 9:30. The first 100 participants will receive a T-shirt. To pre-register online for the gallop, go to www.active.com or call the chamber office at 762-0567.

The festival is being organized once again by Georgetown Village Restoration Inc., the Georgetown Community Association, Georgetown Lions Club, and the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department. Admission to the festival is free.
