Mar 25, 2008
The Women’s Center of Greater Danbury is celebrating Women’s History Month with a tea and poetry event on Sunday, March 30, from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
The event will feature three Connecticut poets, Dr. Lynn Tudor Deming, a Redding resident, Rebecca Dobson, and Doris Henderson.
Dr. Deming, a clinical psychologist, has been the recipient of several awards for her poetry; her work “Heady Rubbish” was selected by former U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky to receive the 2005 Philbrick Poetry Prize.
Ms. Dobson, a New Milford resident, is a former actress and co-founder of the American Kaleidoscope Theatre. She now teaches speech and acting, and writes poetry on themes particular to women’s lives and on nature.
Ms. Henderson, a Danbury resident, has longtime been associated with the Women’s Center and is a facilitator of a writing workshop at the Danbury Library. Her work has been published in numerous journals and anthologies; her poem “Distances,” was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
Tea and light refreshments will be served at the event. The poetry reading will run for about one hour, beginning at 2:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. It will be held at the Women’s Center, 8 West Street, Danbury, in the Community Room, on the second floor.
The Women’s Center of Great Danbury provides free and confidential services to prevent or lessen the trauma associated with domestic violence, sexual assault and other major life transitions to thousands of young women, children and men annually. For more information, call 731-5200.
