Schools often send us brief announcements of graduations but invariably, they contain too little information -- often, not even the parents' names. Instead, we rely on families to supply announcements.
A good graduation announcement includes:
If the family no longer lives in Ridgefield, make clear that the student is a former resident.
Announcements may be e-mailed to newsroom@acorn-online.com, postally mailed to Box 1019, Ridgefield CT 06877, or dropped off at 16 Bailey Avenue.
You may submit a clear, crisp color or black-and-white picture of the graduate, too. It may be e-mailed to the above address in a .JPG format, at 150 dpi if possible. If you mail or drop off a print and want it back, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope.
The following is a sample of how to do a graduation announcement (please do not use first names for second references; it should be Mr. Smith or Ms. Smith):
Sally Crow, daughter of Linda and James Crow of Ravenswood Lane, graduated May 23 from Cawcaw University in Blackbird, Iowa, with a bachelor's degree in ornithology.
A 2001 graduate of Ridgefield High School, Ms. Crow was a member of Phi Beta Peep, the national ornithological honor society, and spent her junior year in Madagascar, searching for petrified eggs of the Dodo Bird.
Ms. Crow is working as a staff ornithologist for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in Ithaca, N.Y.
