25 YEARS AGO: Boehringer sues over assessment
Boerhringer-Ingelheim, the town’s largest taxpayer, filed suit in Danbury Superior Court charging that the most recent assessment of its Ridgebury property was “grossly excessive, disproportionate, and unlawful,” the May 12, 1983 Press reported.

With the Barlow Mountain Elementary School leased to the Ridgefield Family Y and the Branchville Elementary School scheduled to close in June, School Superintendent Elliott Landon was asked flatly if he thought the town would ever need Branchville as a school again, the April 14, 1983 Press reported.

Postmaster John L. Sullivan secured approval from the Post Office Department in Washington, D.C., for the use of a special mail cancellation die calling attention to Ridgefield's 250th anniversary celebration, the April 17, 1958 Press reported.

A poll of a dozen restaurants in town indicated that, although sensitive to non-smokers' rights, they did not set aside specific seats for smokers and non-smokers, the April 7, 1983 Press reported.

The Board of Education hired Dirk Bollenback as a high school social studies teacher, Robert Mark as a high school physical education teacher and Cynthia Hapke as an elementary school teacher for the 1958-59 academic year, the April 10, 1958 Press reported.

An old dump site that was thought to contain toxic materials such as pesticides, paint and solvents was named by state officials as a potential threat to the Sugar Hollow Aquifer, the March 31, 1983 Press reported.
