Baseball: Ridgefield tops Wilton in nine
After the first nine games of the season, the Ridgefield High baseball
team couldn’t lose and was sitting at the top of the league standings.
But the Tigers then hit a speed bump, dropping three of four games,
including losses to Greenwich and Fairfield Ludlowe on back-to-back
days last week.
To its credit, though, Ridgefield recovered quickly.

Murph's Turf: Favre jersey finally comes off
For his 12th birthday on April 23, David Witthoft got four shirts.
The new threads will come in handy. After nearly four and one-half years, he is finally wearing something else.
From Christmas Day 2003 until his most recent birthday, David had been
dutifully pulling a green Brett Favre jersey over his head every
morning. A Green Bay Packers fan, David wore the Favre jersey to honor
his favorite player and set a Guinness Book record. Several years ago
when the folks at Guinness said they wouldn’t recognize David’s
attempt, he kept wearing the jersey anyway, hoping his perseverance
might change their mind.
But when Favre announced his retirement earlier this year, David had a
reason to discontinue his streak. There were other stylistic concerns
as well.
“It was getting to the point where it was ridiculous,” he said. “It was barely reaching my waist.”

Softball: Coach hopes good can come from loss
Trailing 3-0, Staples rallied for four unearned runs in the top of the
seventh inning to defeat Ridgefield, 4-3, in an FCIAC softball game
Monday afternoon in Ridgefield.
“What can come out of a loss is character,” said Ridgefield head coach
Angelo Formisano. “We have to learn from this and make it a positive as
we go forward. We were complacent in a loss to Greenwich last Wednesday
and then we won two games in two days. We have to do the same thing
with this loss.”

Boys lacrosse: Tigers put away McMahon
After suffering its first loss of the season in a non-conference game
with New Fairfield last Wednesday, the Ridgefield High boys lacrosse

unbeaten in the FCIAC.
Monday night, the Tigers (11-1 overall, 10-0 FCIAC) held off a pesky McMahon team in a 13-5 win at Tiger Hollow.

Boys track: Ridgefield now 7-2 after sweep
The Ridgefield High boys track team continued its winning ways Tuesday,
building on last week’s three victories with a sweep of three more dual
meets.
The Tigers handily beat Bridgeport Central, 102-48. But in the other
two meets, it came down to the last event for the margin of victory.
The Tigers were able to come away with identical 80-70 wins against
both Darien and Fairfield Warde.

Murph's Turf: Patrick's victory offers inspirational moment
Chauvinists, cynics and other assorted naysayers can use the following
to make their case: Only 18 cars started the race. Many of the top
drivers were not there. The race hinged on fuel mileage more so than
driver competence. There was no wheel-to-wheel duel on the final lap.

Softball: Tigers top Stamford, Norwalk
Steady rain earlier this week accomplished what the opposition has failed to in the past seven games.
Cool off the Ridgefield High softball team.
The Tigers extended their winning streak to seven with last Friday’s
6-4 win over Norwalk. That followed a 3-2 victory over Stamford two
days earlier and pushed Ridgefield’s record to 8-3. The Tigers entered
yesterday’s games with a two-game lead over Staples in the FCIAC
Central Division.
