Bed & breakfast planned on Danbury Road
|
The owners of a four-bedroom house at 415 Danbury Road (Route 35) received permission from the Planning and Zoning Commission to open a bed and breakfast.
Owners Barbara J. Simkins and Kimberly Wanamaker received a special permit Dec. 18 to operate a commercial business within a residential zone. Ms. Simkins and Ms. Wanamaker said they plan to rent out three of the four bedrooms to “mostly weekenders who come to Ridgefield to get away from the city.”
The home has four bedroom and a large exercise room that could become a fifth bedroom. Ms. Wanamaker told the commission she and Ms. Simkins planned to limit the number of rented rooms to just three.
The two women also said they would offer only a “continental breakfast” in accordance with zoning regulations. A “bed and breakfast” can offer only ready-made foods and drink. An “inn” with a certified professional kitchen can offer a full menu.
Nancy Riedy, who owns property that abuts 415 Danbury Road, objected to granting special permit because she believed it could hurt her property values. Ms. Riedy plans to subdivide her property.
The zoning commission gave unanimous approval to the special permit.
