ARTS: The Bacon Brothers are returning to Ridgefield

Mar 26, 2008

Michael and Kevin Bacon will perform at the Ridgefield Playhouse April 6.

The Bacon Brothers, with special guest Chris Barron, the Spin Doctor’s lead singer, are coming to The Ridgefield Playhouse for Movies and the Performing Arts on Sunday, April 6 at 8 p.m.

Perhaps no other band has gotten more mileage out of the element of surprise than the Bacon Brothers, Kevin and Michael. Through countless gigs and five albums — including their latest, “White Knuckles” — surprising people is something the band does well.

While cynical or curious listeners expect no more than a vanity project from a global film star and his musician brother, what they encounter instead is a group of talented performers whose dynamic lyrics and amazing harmonies deliver the goods.

“We’ve been chipping away at that awareness, at the fact that most people think we’re gonna [be bad],” co-front man Kevin Bacon says, reflecting on he and his bother Michael’s first 11 years as a country/folk band.

What most onlookers don’t realize is that guitarist/vocalist Kevin and his older brother Michael (guitar, vocals, cello) are lifelong musicians. And that, of course, is part of the reason why they have become so good at turning heads and tweaking ears — harvesting an ever-growing fan base along the way, as they did at their appearance at The Playhouse in February 2006.

For tickets ($75) and further information about The Ridgefield Playhouse, call the box office at 438-5795; tickets may be also purchased online at ridgefieldplayhouse.org. The Playhouse is located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main Street.

Smith Ridge Properties LLC is underwriting their appearance.
