Ridgefield Press
ARTS: Author Nalini Jone will be luncheon speaker

May 11, 2008

Nalini Jones, a 1989 graduate of Ridgefield High School, will discuss What You Call Winter, her debut collection of short stories set in a suburb of Mumbai, on Sunday, May 18.

Ms. Jones will speak at the annual Book and Author Brunch sponsored by the American Association of University Women. The stories in What You Call Winter reveal the upheavals within an Indian Catholic family. One critic compares Ms. Jones’s book to The Dubliners: “All of Joyce’s choice themes are here — lost innocence, alienation, dislocation, and a struggle with Catholic identity.”

The Book and Author Brunch will be at Bernard’s, 20 West Lane, beginning at noon with a book-signing.

Cost of the brunch is $40. A portion of the proceeds and book sales go to the AAUW Educational Foundation to advance education and research for women.

The public is welcome.

To make a reservation, call Kathy Thelin, 743-3336, by May 14.
