Thomas M. Curran, Scottish bagpiper
Thomas M. Curran died in his sleep Friday, March 28, 2008.

He was born April 16, 1923, in Craigneuk, Motherwell, Scotland.

Mr. Curran entered the British Army in 1944 and served in India, Burma and Malaysia.

He emigrated to America to start a new life in 1948. Known to his coworkers as “Scotty,” he worked for Pitney Bowes Inc. in Stamford for 35 years, retiring in 1987.

Mr. Curran was very proud of his Scottish heritage and was a bagpiper in the former Stamford Kiltie Band and a longtime member of the Round Hill Highland Games Committee. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford, and a Freemason with Harmony Lodge No. 67 in New Canaan.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Walker Curran, born in Barrhead, Scotland. His mother, Elizabeth Irving Janssens, stepfather Leon P. Janssens, brother John Curran, and his sister Elizabeth Curran dies before him.

He is survived by his granddaughter, Bonnie Rumilly, a counselor at Weston High School, and her husband, Mathias Rumilly; son Robert L. Curran, daughter-in-law Elaine Curran, son Thomas Curran Jr., and grandchildren Robert I.T. Curran, Brianne E.M. Curran and Thomas Curran Deflorio.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, April 1, at the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford, 1101 Bedford Street, Stamford.
