Elizabeth J. Sigmund, wife of the late George C. Sigmund, died peacefully on April 11 after an extended illness. She was 82.
She was the daughter of the late Christopher and Irene Jurgenson, born April 8, 1926 in New York City, and spent her youth in New Canaan, and summers in Great Barrington, Mass.
She and George raised their family for more than 30 years in Weston, before settling in Stratford.
She was a bookkeeper for Peter P. Martini Septic Tanks, Inc., in Westport until her retirement in 1980. Ms. Sigmund loved spending time in her garden, her kitchen and treasured time with her family, family members say.
Ms. Sigmund is survived by her brother, Theodore Jurgenson of Whiting, N.J., and her aunt Georgette Jurgenson of New Canaan. She will be missed by her loving children; Richard Sigmund and his wife Keiko, Kristina Swiderski and her husband John, Todd Sigmund and his wife Ellen, family members says.
“Grammy” will be remembered lovingly by her five grandchildren: Stephanie Wright, Scott Sigmund, Candice and Courtney Swiderski, and Sean Sigmund, and three great grandchildren; Kelly Wright and Kaidyn and Landyn Sigmund, family members say.
Ms. Sigmund also leaves behind her nephew Daniel Sigmund, niece Tracey Walenz of Nebraska, and her niece Deanna Gibbs of Tennessee, and many cousins.
Friends may call at the Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church Street, Georgetown, on Friday April 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. The interment will be private and held in Great Barrington.
