After only a few events the Weston High girls track team would leave the competition behind in its meet last week.

Hosting Masuk on Monday, April 21, the Trojans battled their opponent early in the meet. As they moved into the middle distance competition and beyond the Trojans had plenty of talent left over for the rest of the meet, winning 106-44.

Weston did not get much resistance from Lauralton Hall and Immaculate, who were also on hand for the meet, overpowering the former 136-6 and the latter 124-21.

Immaculate did have a good 4x800 relay team, which won in 10 minutes 11 seconds. Kara Bucaro, Casey Weiss, Jessica Welsh, and Emma Tobin placed second in 10:14.7.

The Trojans took first in the remaining relays, and in many other events as well. Chloe Slovak, Shayna Goodman, Callie Arlo, and Cathy Roberts combined to win the 4x100 in 52.2.

Masuk was strong in the 100 high hurdles as well as the 100 meters, taking two of the top three spots in each event. For the former, Weston earned points from Kathryn Bacher with a 17.4 for second and had Ali Atkinson finish in 13.3 to place third in the latter.

Although the Panthers took second and third in the 1,600, the Trojans won the event with Sarah Griffin’s time of 5:37. Weston’s lead grew significantly after the 400, which Atkinson won in 60.3. Roberts followed in 61.1 for second.

Bacher’s 53.5 in the 300 intermediate hurdles followed Masuk’s one-two finish. No one could catch the Trojans in the 800, which ended in a sweep. Tobin led the way in 2:33.3, and Griffin (2:38.4) and Bucaro (2:41.3) followed.

This was the case in the 200 with Atkinson in first in 27.5. Slovak followed in 25.4 and Roberts posted a 28.8 to complete the sweep.

Immaculate’s only other first place was in the 3,200. Welsh earned points for Weston, taking second.

Completing the track events, the 4x400 team of Shayna Goodman, Julie Sitver, Arlo, and Tobin finished first in 4:22.

Several of the field events were Weston sweeps, including the javelin, which Kate Butlein won. Leah Scrimmager was next and Eva Kronberg took third.

Two of the same three athletes scored in the shot put, with Scrimmager getting the win with 28’ 9.5” and Butlein taking third with 29’ 2”. The former won the discus with 82’ 9” and the latter was runner up with 74’ 3”.

Masuk’s only field win was in the long jump. Emily Ando was second overall with 15’ 7.5”. She did win the triple jump, however. Weston also won the high jump with Meg Sanborn clearing 4’ 8”.

Not surprisingly, Weston swept the pole vault. Sitver led the way with a height of 10 feet to place first based on number of attempts. Ando was second with 10 feet as well and Ann Lupo went 8’6” for third.

Weston, now 5-0, visits Bethel and also takes on Joel Barlow and Brookfield on Monday.
