The Weston girls tennis team continues to be on a roll.
After a week off because of school break the Trojans resumed their schedule with two matches last week. Both opponents offered little resistance as the Trojans swept New Milford on Wednesday, April 23, and did likewise to Masuk the next day by identical 7-0 scores
Weston first singles player Marie Gargiulo nearly swept the Green Wave’s Larissa Baker, winning easily 6-0, 6-1. Katie Gross did not have it too hard in the No. 2 spot before getting a 6-0, 6-3 win from Kristina Spencer. Posting a similar score in the No. 3 spot, Kate Cohen won 6-0, 6-2 over Katie Niels.
The closest match was in the No. 4 singles spot. Laura Jaffee split sets making it a tough match against Alyssa Niels. Although Jaffee dropped the first set she held on to the next and did not allow a game in the third to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.
The Trojans dominated the doubles matches, starting with Lindsey Gersh and Liz Palmieri winning 6-2, 6-0 against Nicole Durosko and Jessica Granger. For the No. 2 spot Zoe Valella and Emma Samson just missed a shutout in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lara Mahar and Jessica Lippin. Kelly Pierce and Rebecca Zhu teamed up for third doubles to win 6-2, 6-3 against Mikaela Malumphy and Chelsea Ross to complete the sweep for Weston.
Things were not much harder when the Trojans visited Masuk the next day. Gargiulo won 6-0, 6-1 against Adrienna Kovicz. Gross won 6-2, 6-2 against Kelsey Kringel. Kate Cohen played third singles and beat Mollie Mendes 6-3, 6-1. Dixie Glaser was in the fourth spot and posted an easy 6-0, 6-1 win over Jordan Walker.
Palmieri and Lindsey Gersh beat Emily Nascamento and Kelly Jahn 6-2, 6-0. Valella and Emma Samson communicated well on the court and it paid off in a 6-1, 6-1 win over Britnee Kindzierski and Julie Barton. Pierce and Zhu posted 6-2, 6-3 scores to beat Jenny Haren and Caroline Fenn.
Still unbeaten at 6-0, Weston hosts Newtown today (Thursday), is home against Joel Barlow on Friday, visits Lauralton Hall on Monday, and goes to Immaculate on Wednesday.
