Weston Historical Society
Archive facility topic at annual meeting

At the upcoming annual meeting of the Weston Historical Society, detailed plans for the society’s proposed archive and exhibit hall will be unveiled.
The archive and exhibit hall will keep Weston’s history readily available to all in Weston. According to a press release from the historical society, the facility will enable the society to properly receive, care for, and display historically important artifacts, as well as serve the educational needs of the community.
The Weston Historical Society’s 47th annual meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 26, at 7 p.m. in the Weston Library on Norfield Road. Society members and members of the community are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served.
Bob Faesy and Tom Smith of Faesy-Smith Architects in Wilton have been retained to design and oversee the construction of the new facilities. They will present architectural renderings of the proposed archive and educational building at the meeting.
Care has been taken to blend the “new” with the “old” architecturally and to preserve the historical aspects of the Coley Homestead, headquarters of the society, where the new facility will be built, according to the release.
“The archive will provide a vital historical, educational and meeting resource for the entire community of Weston,” said Reg Bowden, Weston Historical Society president. “These plans are the culmination of 15 years during which various boards of trustees of the Weston Historical Society wrestled with concerns about the proper safeguarding and display of accumulated historical artifacts of Weston. During the administration of former president Alan Aronow, these plans took root with the development of a specific new archive concept.”
Fund raising for this project is still underway, and Mr. Bowden said he is mindful the society has a long way to go to reach the financial goals established to complete the building.
“To date, we have raised more than $700,000 of the total $1.2 million we require to complete the project. We have applied for a state grant that, if received in full, will enable us to break ground this summer and launch our community campaign in the fall,” Mr. Bowden said.
In other business at the meeting, there will be an announcement of the new members of the Board of Trustees. Nominees are Sandy O’Brien, Dick Troxell, Jane Young-Anglim, Bruce Missett, and Jim Jamieson as a re-elect.
