Who: All registered Weston voters and Weston property owners who hold at least $1,000 of taxable assets may vote at the Town Meeting.
What: Town Meeting will be asked to discuss and vote to appropriate $1,686,585 from the general fund: $1.1 million for transfer to the town’s Other Post Employment Benefits (OPEB) Trust Fund; $586,585 for design and construction costs for the renovation of the Weston High School auditorium.
When: Wednesday, June 11, 7:30 p.m.
Where: Weston Middle School cafeteria, School Road.
Why: The Board of Finance has recommended keeping the general fund at about 12% of the total town budget as of way of maintaining its Aaa bond rating. The general fund is currently equal to about 16% of the total budget. The $1.7 million in appropriations would bring the balance close to the 12% target.
The OPEB transfer is meant to help the town begin to address outstanding liability costs of about $11 million. The auditorium money will help cover the $2.16 million cost of renovating the high school auditorium ($1.5 million is already designated for the project).
