Corrections: Turf fields, field trash, football games
Oct 4, 2007
In an article in last week’s edition of The Bulletin (Turf safety concerns: Officials advocate measured approach, Page 1A) it was incorrectly stated that the town of Westport is planning construction of two additional infilled turf fields. Westport has completed the two fields, bringing the total number of turf fields to four in that town.
Also incorrect in the article was an attribution to a Rutgers University study on outgassing of organic compounds from the rubber granules in the turf. There is a Rutgers study, but the study paid for by Environment and Human Health Inc., was conducted by the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, a state agency.
In another article (Parks and Rec plans program to curb trash on fields, Page 2A) it was incorrectly stated that the Parks and Recreation Commission was unanimous in support of a pilot program to remove trash barrels from the Ambler and Miller-Driscoll fields. The actual vote was 3-2, with Commissioners Chris Giovino and Christine Finkelstein opposed.
Additionally, in a photo caption (Home field advantage, Page 1A) it was incorrectly stated that the Wilton Warriors football team had not played a game at Memorial Stadium in two years. The Warriors played home games at the stadium in 2005.
The Bulletin apologizes for these errors.
