William Hauck, 88, Wilton resident, skilled craftsman and tinkerer

William James Hauck of Wilton, died Wednesday, April 23, in the home he crafted with his own hands. He was 88.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Dec. 25, 1919, Mr. Hauck was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on a destroyer escort. He was known to be a craftsman and ceaseless tinkerer, his family said.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Geraldine Hickey Hauck, and five sons; William T. Hauck and his wife, Jan, of Southbury; John J. Hauck of Torrington, Gerald Hauck and his wife, Jenny of Ridgefield; Paul Hauck and his wife Shannon of Newtown; and Richard Hauck of Wilton. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren
The family would like to express their appreciation to Idris Oyepibo, Mr. Hauck’s recent caregiver and companion.
A mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
