|
Kyle Reid Schneider of Fairfield, a former Wilton resident, died Thursday, May 1, the victim of an apparent homicide. He was 17.
Born Jan. 11, 1991 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Stamford, he grew up in Wilton, attending Miller School and Cider Mill School before moving to New Castle, Maine in 2003. He was a junior at Fairfield Warde High School at the time of his death.
Kyle’s generous heart and uncanny ability to make everyone laugh with his sometimes irreverent humor will be missed by all who knew him, his family said. He excelled in academics at an early age, and in grade school was recommended for John Hopkins Search for Talented Youth. He had most recently medalled for the second year in a row in the National Latin Contest.
Music played a major role in Kyle’s life, according to his family. He had an eclectic taste from Al Green to Metallica. In the third grade, he picked up the saxophone and became a talented and gifted player, his family said.
He played in several school and community jazz bands and with the help of friends, taught himself the bass guitar. Kyle also had a great voice and loved singing his favorite songs.
He is survived by his parents, Mary Reid (Buchanan) Schneider, and Douglas Robert Schneider; a brother and sister, Douglas L. Schneider and Rachel L. Schneider; his maternal grandmother, Francine Buchanan of Darien; paternal grandparents, Donald R. and Wanda Schneider of Soldiers Grove, Wisc.; and aunts, uncles and cousins in both the Schneider and Buchanan families. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather Warren Dunn Buchanan.
Friends may call on Wednesday, May 7 from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road in Fairfield. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 8, at 11 a.m. at the First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road in Fairfield. Burial will be private.
