Golf: Wilton stays unbeaten
|
The first 10 opponents should probably cover their ears and start humming. This is something they won’t want to hear.
The Wilton High golf team is 10-0 — and not playing as well as it could.
“We haven’t really clicked on all cylinders yet,” said Wilton head coach Doug Campbell. “Outside of our win against Greenwich, we haven’t played as well as I think we can play.”
The Warriors got to 10-0 by beating two opponents Tuesday at Rolling Hills. Wilton shot a 166 — its second lowest home score of the season — to defeat St. Joseph (176) and Trumbull (177).
Brian Murphy and Marshall Stock each shot a 40 to lead Wilton and share medalist honors.
Jack Mathews played well and finished with a 40, and Jim Kachadoorian rounded out the Wilton scoring with a 45. Will Herndon had the team’s fifth score with a 46.
Wilton was coming off a 169-172 victory over Fairfield Warde the day before at Rolling Hills.
Murphy shot a 39 to earn medalist honors. Nick Botticelli had a 41 and Stock a 44. Herndon and Mike Deming both shot 45.
“Murph had a nice round and Nick Botticelli got a start and played well,” said Campbell. “Nick clinched the win for us.”
Last Tuesday, the Warriors defeated Stamford, 157-183, at E.G. Brennan Golf Course.
Murphy was the medalist with a 36. Stock shot 38, Kachadoorian 41 and Deming 42.
