Watershed group to host butterfly walk tomorrow
|
Ready to see some butterflies? Lepidopterist Vic DeMasi has been studying butterflies and moths in an area along the Norwalk River since 1977.
This Saturday, Aug. 18, from 10 until noon, Mr. DeMasi will lead a nature walk for the Norwalk River Watershed Association and for the general public, sharing some of his knowledge about butterfly behavior, caterpillars’ and butterflies’ requisite plants, life cycles and regional population trends.
The meeting and parking site for this annual program is just to the east of the Simpaug Turnpike railroad bridge and Route 7 (Ethan Allen Highway) at the Ridgefield/Redding town line.
Attendees are advised to bring water, and wear footwear and clothing appropriate for meandering in meadows. A butterfly net or a magnifying glass would add to the appreciation of the insect life and flowers encountered, officials said. Reservations are recommended but not required.
Information: Vic DeMasi at 938-9016.
