Arthritis talk tomorrow at The Greens open to the Wilton community

The Greens at Cannondale senior living community at 435 Danbury Road will host a free community lecture, “Arthritis: Causes and Natural Solutions” on Monday, Oct. 15, at 6:30 p.m.

Guest speaker Dr. Robert Zembroski will present the lecture to provide individuals of all ages with research on prevention and natural treatments for arthritis. The lecture is open to the outside community as well as residents and staff of The Greens.

As one of the nation’s most common health problems, the number of people aged 65 or older who have arthritis or chronic joint symptoms is projected to nearly double from 2001 (21.4 million) to 2030 (41.4 million). Arthritis is not just a disease of the elderly, as nearly two-thirds of people with arthritis are younger than 65 years.

Arthritis comprises more than 100 different diseases and conditions; the most common are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, and gout. Common symptoms include pain, aching, stiffness, and swelling in or around the joints.

Much attention was drawn to the potentially dangerous side effects of certain medications prescribed for arthritis in 2004 when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Health Canada concluded there is an increased risk of serious cardiovascular problems associated with all COX 2 selective NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). In light of the news, many individuals began to seek more information on safe alternative treatments for arthritis management.

In the presentation, Dr. Zembroski will explain the various underlying causes of arthritis. Attendees will learn the role of the brain, stress, injury, nutrition, hormonal influences, and immune responses.

Diagnostic methods for determining the underlying factors of an individual’s arthritis will be discussed, as well as natural solutions aimed to correct the problem and/or provide relief for the exhausting symptoms. Specific nutrients that are effective in the treatment of arthritis will also be explored.

Dr. Zembroski regularly donates his time to educate the community on important health topics. For more than 13 years he has maintained a private practice in Darien, specializing in the treatment of neurological dysfunctions without drugs or surgery.
