|
Wiltonians Queenie Chan and Allison Villa, musicians with the Ridgefield Symphony Youth Orchestra, will perform when that orchestra and the Ridgefield Symphony Junior Orchestra begin their 2007-08 season with performances on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 4 at Ridgefield High School.
The concert weekend will start on Friday evening, Nov. 16, with a wine tasting at Bernard's Restaurant. Ten percent of all sales proceeds will be donated to the Youth Orchestra. The orchestra will also be taking orders for holiday wreaths and garlands.
Performing with the Youth Orchestra will be mezzo soprano Caroline Chanin, who has performed at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, New York City's Town Hall and the Vineyard Theater and has presented recitals throughout the U.S. and Canada. Also performing are alumni Ted Rogers (tuba) and Sara Smith (flute), students at Western Connecticut State University, and Erica Clayton (oboe), who attends the Hartt School of Music.
Under the direction of Petko Dimitrov, assistant conductor for the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra, the Youth Orchestra has performed 21 concerts during its first five seasons, including concert tours in Paris and Austria, performed at Carnegie Hall, has hosted collaborative efforts with area schools, and has organized annual benefit performances with world-renowned musicians. Under the direction of conductor Suzanne Corey-Sahlin, the Junior Orchestra is marking its third year.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for senior citizens and children 12 and under. Information: ridgefieldsymphony.org.
