Volunteers sworn in for regional Medical Reserve Corps
|
More than 30 members of the Westport Weston Wilton Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) were sworn in on Dec. 19 at a holiday breakfast reception at the Westport Senior Center.
This unit of the MRC, while housed by the Westport Weston Health District (WWHD), is a regional team that also serves Wilton. Sue Jacozzi, WWHD director of health, said the volunteer MRC is organized to provide assistance during public health emergencies, such as staffing at mass-dispensing clinics.
“In the event we were required to conduct mass vaccinations or distribute emergency medications to our residents, we would rely upon our MRC volunteers as critical support staff,” said Ms. Jacozzi. “We are greatly appreciative to our MRC members and this reception is a small token of our thanks.”
Members were also thanked by Westport First Selectman Gordon Joseloff, MRC organizer and Director of Community Health Monica Wheeler, and new MRC leader and Director of Emergency Preparedness Ken Kellogg.
At the conclusion of the program, members were administered the State of Connecticut Loyalty Oath by the Emergency Management Directors from the three-town region, Fire Chief Chris Ackley (Westport), Police Sergeant Mike Ferullo (Weston), and Fire Chief Paul Milositz (Wilton). MRC members serve in both medical and non-medical roles, and are provided with training that ranges from clinic operations to operating the National Incident Management System. A medical background is not required.
Anyone interested in joining the Westport Weston Wilton MRC may contact Ken Kellogg at 227-9571 ext. 233.
