New fitness facility in Wilton Center emphasizes one-on-one training

It’s an exciting time for Jason Baer, president of Personal Training Professionals; not only has he opened a new branch of his business at 5 River Road, but he’s also launching the business as a franchise model.

Mr. Baer, who grew up in Redding, has owned Personal Training Professionals in New Canaan for the last 10 years. The location in New Canaan is the largest personal training facility in Fairfield County, and he said the business there was so successful that he wanted to look for opportunities to expand in the nearby area.

“We’re excited about coming to Wilton. We had a lot of pre-sign ups, a lot of consultations,” said Mr. Baer of the new business. It first opened on March 10.

“I’ve always been into sports and athletics,” said Mr. Baer, who has a degree in exercise science, of why he first got into the personal training industry 15 years ago. The business hasn’t yet sold any franchises, but he said he was optimistic.

Part of what makes the business different from other personal training facilities is the personal experience that every client gets, he said.

“All our services are one-on-one. It’s personal to the individual,” said Mr. Baer. First time clients will consult with a dietitian and a comprehensive training program is then created for each individual. A client will then work one-on-one with a trainer based on their program.

The reason for devising different plans for different clients is simple; not every client has the same needs.

“We have clients looking to lose weight, increase strength and flexibility, along with the core, abs, and lower back,” said Mr. Baer. He also mentioned recovering from an injury and training for a specific sport are reasons clients sign up.

Additionally, the clientele the business caters to has quite an age range. Mr. Baer said he and his staff work with people from age eight to age 80.

“We really pride ourselves on our ability to work with all populations,” said Mr. Baer.

In addition to the training services, the business also offers nutritional advice. And members of the Wilton facility can also go to the New Canaan facility for yoga, pilates and massage therapy. The New Canaan facility is also seeing a new pilates studio open on April 1. Members can also come in to work on the cardio machines.

“We’re kind of a one stop shop,” said Mr. Baer.

Another way the personal training facility is different from others is there are no membership or initiation fees. Through March 31, a training pack is 10% off.

In terms of price, 10 training sessions are $85 each, 20 training sessions are $80 each and 30 training sessions are $75 each. Each training session lasts an hour.

The facility has five trainers and three directors. The three directors are Michael Jordan (no relation to the basketball player), Kristen Caron and Matt Caron.

The facility is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Because every client has their own training program, the scheduling of training sessions is flexible.

“We’re really excited about sharing our training and methodology with the community of Wilton,” said Mr. Baer.
