United Way of Norwalk & Wilton exceeds fundraising goal
Apr 9, 2008
The annual United Way of Norwalk & Wilton’s Caring Community Campaign again surpassed its goal, according to Tom Quindlen, the campaign’s co-chair. At a recent thank-you breakfast for supporters, Mr. Quindlen announced that $2,563,289 was raised this year, which is a 7.4% increase above last year’s total and 5.5% above the campaign’s $2,430,550 goal. This is the 49th year of the Caring Community Campaign.
“Our community did something pretty amazing this year,” said Mr. Quindlen, who is president and CEO of Corporate Lending for GE Commercial Finance. “In the midst of recession fear, employees and residents in Norwalk and Wilton did what they always do so well — show care for one another.”
At the breakfast, hosted by GE Commercial Finance in its offices at 901 Main Avenue in Norwalk, Mr. Quindlen thanked many of the contributors and recognized their achievements with certificates of appreciation.
“What a partnership we have with our contributors,” said Mr. Quindlen. “Together we are improving lives and making our community better for all who live and work here.” Mr. Quindlen also acknowledged the 22 volunteer members of his Campaign Cabinet who have promoted the campaign since last September.
Among the cabinet members were Sarkis Kaolian of the United Way of Norwalk & Wilton; Sara Taffel, director, human resources, Labor Relations and Administrative Services for the town of Wilton; Dr. Gary Richard, Wilton’s superintendent of schools; Ellen Andrews, director of human resources for the Wilton schools; Dr. Kevin and Moira Craw, veterinarian and Wilton residents; Patricia Sweeney, senior vice president, The Wilton Bank; Frederick J. Petrossi, assistant vice president, Commerce Bank of Wilton; Karen Strickland, development director, Wilton Family Y; and Pauline Randall of United Way of Norwalk & Wilton.
“You are an exceptional group of community leaders,” Mr. Quindlen said. “Without you, there would not have been the success we are celebrating this morning.”
David R. Kennedy, United Way’s president and CEO, also thanked supporters “for creating opportunities and inspiring hope for a better tomorrow.”
