The Breast Cancer Alliance held its 14th annual Benefit Luncheon and Fashion Show, Hope, Style, Life, on Oct. 22 at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich, with some 800 guests in attendance. The event raised roughly $1.2 million, which will support breast cancer research, outreach and education programs.

On Sunday, Oct. 24 the Bruce Museum and the Greenwich Land Trust hosted a geology walk on the land trust's 10-acre Clyne Preserve, which boasts sweeping views of Bargh Reservoir. Bruce Museum Science Curator Carolyn Rebbert and Greenwich Land Trust's Daniel Barrett were two of the local experts on hand to talk about the various geologic formations found in this part of Greenwich. Visitors followed a numbered interpretive trails around lichen covered boulders, up steep slopes and past trees covered in colorful fall foliage. On Sept. 10, Forever Families Through Adoption (FFTA), held its first annual fund-raiser, “An Evening at Stonewall Pond” in Greenwich at the home of board member Betsy Sorrel Martin and her husband Ken Martin. The event consisted of a silent auction and gourmet food from local restaurants such as Solaia Enoteca and Ristorante in Greenwich, Café Mirage in Port Chester, Ruby’s Oyster Bar and Bistro and Morgan's Fish House in Rye, Truffles Caterers in Port Chester, Sonora in Port Chester and wine tasting sponsored by local merchant The Wine Gallery in Rye Brook and Wine at Five in Rye. All proceeds benefited the New York/ Connecticut nonprofit adoption placement agency and resource center aimed to help children find their forever families and keep “harder to place” children out of the foster care system. Lisa Wysocki organized a pet adoption day at Flowers by George on May 2. All of the animals were from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Ms. Wysocki has been involved for some time in transporting highly adoptable dogs from high-kill shelters in the South.

Kindergartners from the International School at Dundee performed in a show titled "Our Families From Around the World" for parents and other students Friday, Feb. 20. Three classes performed dances from Germany, Japan and America and sang songs. The performance was followed by an international reception featuring foods from around the world prepared by the children's parents.
